The thyroid gland produces and produces hormones that play roles in various systems in the body. When the thyroid gland produces too much or too little of these important hormones, it is called thyroid disease. There are many types of thyroid disease, including hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroiditis, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
